David Schelkoph has accepted the position as Valley City's new City Administrator.
After screening over 30 applicants, Valley City Mayor Bob Werkhoven announced Tuesday morning that Schelkoph will start as early as the third week in January.
Schelkoph, currently of Williston, N.D., is a graduate of Valley City High School and works at Killdeer Mountain Manufacturing of Dickinson. He brings 8 years of military service with the Air Force and Air National Guard and a Bachelor's degree in engineering from NDSU to the administrator's chair.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) â Williston's City Commission is mulling whether to buy a stake in a newly built apartment complex to provide housing for city employees.
The commission is expected to take up the proposal Dec. 27. Commissioners asked for a delay last week to consult other property developers.
Mayor Ward Koeser said the city could spend $300,000 to $350,000 to buy control of 12 to 15 apartments. They're part of a 36-apartment project being built by Valley City developer George Gaukler.
Williston city administrators say the idea would help them recruit new employees.
As Shane Undem neared the end the 145-pound championship wrestling match at the Valley City Holiday Tournament Saturday, even he had his doubts over whether heâd be able to pull out a win.
With the clock ticking down into the final 20 seconds against Wahpetonâs Wyatt Meyer, the Valley City High School junior trailed 6-5 and Meyer wasnât giving him much to work with.
âHeâs a strong defensive wrestler and when you get someone like that itâs hard. Theyâre good at what they do on defense and itâs hard to generate any moves against him.â
For as long as Molly Willson can remember, sheâs been a gymnast.
And the way Valley City High School senior looks at it, the sport has given her abilities that very few others possess.
âItâs different, itâs not like the usual sport that everyoneâs in,â Willson said. âEveryoneâs in basketball and those sports. Itâs nice to be in something that not everyone can do because anyone can go shoot a basketball. Not anyone can flip on a floor.â

Drew Brees threw for 412 yards in a little more than three quarters for New Orleans and got his fifth touchdown pass before Ponderâs fifth completion, leading the surging Saints to their sixth straight victory, 42-20 over the Vikings on Sunday.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) â North Dakota State coach Craig Bohl received a present from the president of the university after his team's first game of the season. It was an atlas of Texas.
He put in on display Saturday after quarterback Brock Jensen accounted for 231 total yards despite playing with the flu and receiver Warren Holloway scored twice to help the Bison defeat Georgia Southern 35-7 in a Football Championship Subdivision semifinal.

The "No Parking 10 p.m. to 6 a.m." signs that were installed in the University District this fall are already slated to get a makeover, according to Valley City City Commissioner George Dutton.
After a meeting with university officials several weeks ago, Dutton and the city decided to push the no parking restriction back two hours, making it from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. in the signed areas: Viking Drive, College Street, and 4th and 2nd Avenues SW.

Stressing a strong theme of smaller government and reduction in federal spending, five North Dakota GOP congressional hopefuls spoke in front of a live audience of roughly 100 at VCSUâs Vangstad Auditorium Wednesday, Dec. 14.
The university provided the stage for an amicable forum among the Republican candidates for North Dakotaâs lone U.S. House of Representatives seat. Sponsored by the District 24 Republicans, the event was the first, and possibly the only, public round table to feature all the contenders before a nominee is chosen at the state Republican Convention next spring.
Valley City Public Schools is reviewing its wellness policy, and school officials are hoping for public involvement in the process.
A rough draft of the policy, compiled from several model policies recommended by the government, will go to administrative council for review. From there it goes through the schoolsâ 11-member Nutrition Team, made up of made up of parents, students, teachers, administration and the public. Following another review by administration council it goes to the public for review.
The Valley City School Board will meet Monday, Dec. 19, at 5:15 p.m. at the Central Administration Building's Board Meeting Room.
