A young male called Betty Jensen of Valley City shortly before noon on Tuesday claiming to be her grandson. The caller said he was in jail in another city and needed money.
Jensen told police she kept him on the phone for "quite a while," asking how his trip went, how he wound up in jail and how much money he needed.
After some time, she finally told the caller "There's only one problem, I don't have a grandson." The caller promptly hung up.
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) â€” Valley City State's football team has moved up three spots to No. 12 in the NAIA coaches' poll after its ninth consecutive win.
The Vikings on Saturday beat Robert Morris College of Illinois 25-13 on the road to move to 9-1 on the season. Playoff pairings are to be announced Sunday afternoon.
No other NAIA teams in the Dakotas are ranked. Marian of Indiana is No. 1 in the poll, for the first time in school history.
The Farm Service Agency announced on Friday that producers in Barnes, Cass and Richland Counties may now apply FSA Emergency Loans.
FSA Farm Loan Manager Larry Schroeder said farmers who suffered physical and production losses due to combined effects of:
frosts and freezes in late spring and early fall
excessive rain, flooding, ground saturation
periods of unseasonably cool spring temperatures
excessive summer heat
weather related insects
that occurred Jan. 1, 2011, and continuing may now apply.

North Dakota State Troopers, Casselton ambulance and Sanford Life Flight crews responded to a single vehicle rollover near Casselton at approximately 10:49 p.m. Wednesday night, Nov. 2.
Barnes County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Crump presented his case for a K-9 unit for the sheriff's department to the Barnes County Commission at the Tuesday, Nov. 2 regular meeting.
â€śThe need for a K-9 unit within the sheriffâ€™s department grows on a daily basis,â€ť Crump said. â€śIn law enforcement we need all the help we can get.â€ť
