November 20th
The Valley City State Vikings were eliminated in the first round of FCS action in Helena, Mont., Saturday afternoon by the No. 2 ranked Carroll College Fighting Saints. Offensive miscues plagued the Vikings early on, and they could not regain their composure against a forceful Carroll team on the road. The Vikings went into the playoffs ranked No. 12 in the NAIA, and exit with an overall record of 9-2.

It was a chilly preview of the the not-so-warm welcome they are apt to receive from the Carroll College Fighting Saints on Saturday.
On a blustery Wednesday afternoon practice at Shelly Ellig Field, the VCSU Vikings sported sweats under their practice jerseys and athletic tape over the ear holes of their helmets to keep the cold at bay. General griping arose about the frozen water coolers, and the lightly frozen turf crackled crisply underfoot.

At Wednesday night's meeting of the Barnes County North School Board, members discussed forming a building authority to pay for the construction of a new school, or to continue using the current campuses.
The board encouraged BCN district residents to offer feedback on the proposal.
A special meeting will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. in the Spiritwood school building for public opinion and possible action by the board.
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — The former longtime Valley City police chief who retired after a months-long dispute with a city administrator who has since left town now plans to take on the mayor, who a group of residents wants forced from office.
November 16th
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota got its first real taste of winter weather Tuesday, with some areas getting heavy snow and others strong winds.
The National Weather Service reports that many northern parts of the state got several inches of snow, with 6 inches falling in Minot. Law enforcement agencies in the area reported more than 100 incidents of vehicles sliding into ditches or other vehicles.
November 15th
An temporary easement drawn up by States Attorney Brad Cruff and signed by Barnes County Commission President Cindy Schwehr releases the county from any liability on four power poles that are perilously close to the pavement on County Road 20.
The poles are approximately four feet from the roadway, and are temporary replacements for poles that were damaged in a fierce windstorm during the early morning hours of July 15.

VCSU Vikings Football swept the Dakota Athletic Conference Postseason Awards, with LeTheo Proctor garnering the conference MVP award, Jordan Maher snagging Most Valuable Senior, and Head Coach Dennis McCulloch earning DAC Coach of the Year honors.
The 2011 All-DAC Football Teams were also announced Monday, with eight VCSU players named to the roster - the most of any DAC team.

First round NAIA playoff match-ups were announced Sunday afternoon, with the No. 12-ranked VCSU Vikings pitted against the No. 2 Carroll College Fighting Saints.
The Vikings will have to be on their toes against an experienced Saints team that will come into the match-up as the defending NAIA National Champion, and 10-1 on the season.
Saturday's game will be VCSU's first playoff appearance since 2001, when they were defeated by Carroll and Coach Mike Van Diest, who holds an .880 career win percentage in his 13-year tenure.

- Pack the HAC: Sponsored by Valley City Public Schools, the VCHS Student Council, and local businesses. The event aims to fill the HAC floor with non-perishable food items and toiletries for the Barnes County Food Pantry. "Pack" will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Hi-liner Activity Center.
