From the Valley City police log:
A young male called Betty Jensen of Valley City shortly before noon on Tuesday claiming to be her grandson. The caller said he was in jail in another city and needed money.
Jensen told police she kept him on the phone for "quite a while," asking how his trip went, how he wound up in jail and how much money he needed.
After some time, she finally told the caller "There's only one problem, I don't have a grandson." The caller promptly hung up.
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — Valley City State's football team has moved up three spots to No. 12 in the NAIA coaches' poll after its ninth consecutive win.
The Vikings on Saturday beat Robert Morris College of Illinois 25-13 on the road to move to 9-1 on the season. Playoff pairings are to be announced Sunday afternoon.
No other NAIA teams in the Dakotas are ranked. Marian of Indiana is No. 1 in the poll, for the first time in school history.
