A new Valley City ordinance states that fireworks can be set off in the city Wednesday, July 1 through Sunday, July 5.
Under the new ordinance as passed by city commissioners, fireworks can be set off from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 1, 2, 3 and 5 and from 8 a.m. to midnight on July 4.
While people were allowed to start selling fireworks on Saturday, the new ordinance doesn't allow people to start setting them off immediately, as was allowed in the past, Valley City Fire Chief Gary Retterath said.
